Welcome adventurer! I'm Mike "Malix" Nystul, also known as the Wandering Wizard. I design and run games of all kinds. I also create and facilitate events. There is more about me on my "About Me" page (links are on the sidebar on the right.)

WHAT AM I UP TO?

The easiest way to keep up with what I am doing is to follow me on my Wandering Wizard page on Facebook. Below is an incomplete overview of the projects I am involved in, or have been involved with recently:

SHERWOOD FOREST FAIRE: I will be running D&D in the most lavish, stunning and altogether appropriate site I've ever been associated with. Look for me at Basham Clan (Booth 106). For more info - click HERE

GAME MASTERING: If you would like me to create or run a game or event feel free to reach out and will see if we can arrange something. I love doing birthday parties. I also work for companies both large and small to provide events and "nerd night" experiences. I am currently taking on new clients for summer campaigns. For more info email me at nystulgm@gmail.com with the subject line "GM".

THE GATEWAY CHRONICLES LARP: I have been running a LARP on and off for more than 20 years. The most recent Austin based incarnation is in its second year. It is an "Adventure LARP" that doesn't use boffers - expeditions are resolved in side rooms ttrpg style. You can find out more at gatewaylarp.com.

CONSULTING: Put my experience to work for you. I have worked for individuals preparing a game to take to market, I have helped GMs hone their craft and I have worked with companies on both computer and traditional games of all kinds. If you are interested reach out to me at nystuldm@gmail.com with "Consultation" in the subject line and explain what you need.

APPEARANCES: I have started doing conventions again. I call myself the Wandering Wizard for a reason. If you have a cool event that I could improve as a guest let me know and I'll try to join you. I can do talks on various subjects related to the gaming and the games industry, I love moderating panels and I can present games run with and for large groups. If you are interested reach out to me at nystuldm@gmail.com. Be sure to include links to the event in question.

GENCON 2023 - I finally returned to GenCon Indy this year!

GARYCON - I will be an "Industry Notable" guest at GaryCon XVI this year in lake Geneva - celebrating 50 years of D&D! I'll be running a lot of games and celebrating my birthday Friday night. See you there!

PERFORMING: I have run a series of Live Play games for 819 Entertainment and Nat 21 Adventures. We most recently played JAMMED - a Spelljammer game before the 5e Spelljammer was officially released campaign. For a couple of years I ran NUkED (and may one day do so again). NUkED is a post apocalyptic ttrpg "Magic and Mayhem in a World Gone Mad" on 819 Entertainment. We had a phenomenal core cast with folks like Shannon McCormick and Jen Brown and some amazing guests such as Todd Stashwick, Travis McElroy, Aabria Iyengar and Ify Nwadiwe (among others).

SERVICE: Since the first lockdown I have been regularly running games via Zoom for front line heroes such as health care professionals and teachers. I have worked with Extra Life and am always open to opportunities to help out wherever and however I can. If you know of a charitable organization who could benefit from a game or event I could put together please direct them to me by having them email nystuldm@gmail.com with the subject line "Service".

COMICPALOOZA: I ran roleplaying games for kids at this enormous comic and pop culture show in Houston in the Kidtopia area. I debuted a ttrpg I designed explicitly for gaming with the younger set.

DUNGEONS AND DRAFTHOUSE: I had the privilege of running D&D for my beloved Alamo Drafthouse in support of the release of Honor Among Thieves. It was a great time at a great event for a great movie. Win, win, win!!

COACHING: I worked with Deep Eddy Psychotherapy for several yeats. They called me their "In House Wizard". I facilitated the Personal Enrichment Adventures Program in which I ran roleplaying sessions for kids who were working on their social skills. I was also a Skills Coach, a role in which I work one on one with folks who could use some guidance achieving personal goals that seem out of reach. I am currently not accepting new patients but that may change. Watch this space.

SUMMER CAMP: Last year, in conjunction with Deep Eddy I offered a half day fantasy summer camp for kids aged 10-14.

I worked for a while with Pinballz Kingdom. I have run games and facilitated events for them. I am even developed special menu items such as a "Beholder Pizza"). I may return. I'll let you know!
